File - Welcome File

Greetings to you from FaithNet Publications!

On March 1st "FaithNet" opened itself to the new world of telecommunications on the Internet. It is an ambitious effort to present a series of web pages combined with mailing lists for persons such as yourself. We have reason to believe you will be particularly interested in the content and activities of FaithNet, so we have placed your email address on our read-only mailing list for announcements concerning the service. There will be no more than one announcement per week, so your mailbox will not be overburdened should you chose to remain on the list. If you desire to remove yourself from the list, just send a message to LISTSERVER@CASCONN.COM with no subject and in the body of the message type UNSUBSCRIBE FAITHANN. Please save this message so you will know how to unsubscribe should you desire to in the future. Below you will find more information on FaithNet.

If you have access to an Internet account for web browsing, you may visit FaithNet at "http://casconn.com/faithnet/faithnet.htm". There you will a whole system of web pages designed for people of faith in ecumenical churches.

- FaithQuest is for personal faith development amid the variety of faith expressions throughout the world. This includes guides to the Internet on the vast resources available from many faith traditions.
A "Theologians for Everyone" series has begun, with pages on Martin Luther and and Soren Kierkegaard.

- FaithCommunity presents congregational resources for life together in postmodern times. The idea is to provide many materials useful in local congregations in electronic format so they can be downloaded and used in congregational newsletters, evangelism and stewardship projects, and learning among children, youth, and adults.

- PublicFaith is for people interested in the outreach and mission of the church in the world today, including Internet guides to public involvement, research, and action.

- CyberWord is for pastors, scholars, technical professionals and anyone who desires to explore the relation of theology and telecommunications. A CyberWord Journal is planned.

- The Preach! Text Study and mailing list is a place to study the texts for the coming week, as well as many helpful guides to the Internet for sermon research and word studies. A "CyberForum for Pastors" has been created as a place to discuss issues in pastoral practice.

- FaithTech is a web page which focuses on technical aspects of computers in church offices, software, support and assistance.

FaithNet would like to identify writers for its publications. Publications includes brief essays (which can be used for newsletter articles, for example), theology pamphlets for use in adult studies, bible studies, book or movie or television reviews, text studies, stewardship or evangelism reports and projects, etc. If you have something to publish, or know of someone who does, please let us know by sending a message to "editor@casconn.com".

If you want more detailed information on any of these areas, send an email message to "faithnet@casconn.com". You will receive both an automated and personal response to your inquiry. In the future you will receive notices of new developments at FaithNet. Please do feel free to give us feedback on any aspect of the system. Our priorities for development will be based on the suggestions we receive from active users. So, let us know!

Sincerely,

L. Edward Knudson
